This model is one of our current military-specification diver’s watches, finished in a discreet matte black PVD coating designed for operational use. It features a ceramic bezel, a scratch- and shatter-resistant sapphire crystal with non-reflective coating, and is powered by a reliable 24-jewel automatic (self-winding) movement with a 41-hour power reserve.
Together, these specifications create a highly robust timepiece offering exceptional value for a watch of this standard.
The matte black non-reflective PVD coating used on this watch is widely specified in military contracts for special forces units, counter-terrorist teams, and covert operations where minimizing reflections is critical.
Unlike painted finishes used on lower-quality watches, the PVD coating is applied through a specialised chemical plating process that bonds with the steel at a molecular level. This produces a far more durable finish that will not fade or rub away during normal use. While extremely hard-wearing, the coating can still be marked if the case is deeply gouged by metal objects or subjected to heavy abrasion against rocks or similar surfaces.
The watch uses a standard 20mm lug width, the same size found on many military diver’s watches. This allows the wearer to easily fit a wide range of straps and bracelets depending on personal preference or operational requirements.
Many customers ask why sapphire crystal is preferred over mineral glass. Synthetic sapphire is widely regarded as the best material for watch crystals because of its exceptional scratch resistance, strength, and impact durability.
These properties make it particularly suitable for military personnel, police officers, security professionals, and outdoor users — groups that represent the majority of our customer base.
In our experience, when watches suffer cracked crystals, over 90% involve mineral glass rather than sapphire. Even hardened mineral crystals simply cannot match sapphire when subjected to demanding conditions.
Sapphire’s strength comes from a specialised heat-treatment process that removes internal stresses which could otherwise weaken the material. Once manufactured, the sapphire is cut into watch crystals and finished with dual anti-reflective coatings to improve visibility.
Interestingly, sapphire is now also used in premium consumer electronics, including the latest iPhone camera lenses, due to the same durability advantages. Despite its superior performance, sapphire crystal remains more expensive to produce and is therefore typically found only in higher-quality watches.
